The Night of Day
Bleakness when it should be sunny
Barren when it should be fruitful
Chaotic when it should be peaceful
Cracking in to steal a space that doesn’t belong to suffering
Yet here you are
A night in my day
Sunny breezes barely interrupt your mayhem
Sweet laughter it’s usual melody strikes a sharp chord
Fingers trailing in the river can’t break through the thick mud wall
Those wet muddy prints as the black dog weaves his way in amongst it all
I used to try chase him away
But I’ve realised he likes to play
And if I focus my energy on feeling the sea breeze and smelling the salt waves crashing against these beaten knees
He eventually just goes away
Leave me grappling to find
Something powerful enough
To break through the mundane and torturous stuff
Then there is you
And you, and you
A friend, my lover, and my mother too
And then when all of these things are out of order too
There is one more, it’s you
The only you
Who knows me more than myself
And loves me like you do
So love me like you do
Touch me like you do
Hold me like you do
Heal me like you do
Heal the night back to the dark
And the day back to the light
So the night of the day
Stays the night of the night
